Hello Ontbirders
To no great surprise, a visit to Britannia Pier today at around 9:30 AM
did not produce any of the purple sandpipers that were reported
yesterday and the day before. The winter storm is over, and today's
temperatures would certainly be an incentive to a southbound migrant to
continue its journey. It should be noted that purple sandpipers could
conceivably have been "hiding" on the northernmost side of the western
jetty that juts far out into the Ottawa River, which is not visible from
shore.
On the plus side, there was a large flock (100+) of Bohemian Waxwings in
my neighbourhood on Parkglen near the intersection with Woodroffe.
Directions to Britannia Pier: From the 417 (Queensway), take Pinecrest
north. Cross Carling Ave (Pinecrest becomes Greenview) and drive to the
parking lot at the end of the road. Proceed on foot north to the Pier.
