The two Northern Gannets found at Oshawa Harbour yesterday by Hans Holbrook
(visitor from Maryland) were still present today (11:00 a.m.) but were
"fishing" a bit further offshore, probably 500 to 600 yards. The best
viewing point would be at the end of the Oshawa Harbour pier but were also
visible from the beach. Dress for a strong wind in about 23 degrees of F.
temp today. Patience is needed as they were not evident until about 45
minutes after arrival but with a scope you should be able to spot them
drifting on the lake surface. A feeding frenzy did bring one of the Gannets
to within 50 meters of the pier as I was leaving.
Good birding, Stu Williams
