[Ontbirds]Pine Siskin, Pine Grosbeaks and Common Redpolls Oshawa

Oshawa Second Marsh/ Darlington Provincial Park area Dec 1

Well with the cold weather both the Oshawa Second Marsh and McLaughlin Bay have frozen overnight. Lots of waterfowl foraging offshore on beaton's reef and lots of finches in the park.
highlights: 42 species

1 Common Loon, 1 Rough-legged Hawk, 1 Great Horned Owl, 1 Great Blue Heron 
 2 Brown Creepers, 9 Golden-crowned Kinglets, 3 American Robins
1 Red-winged Blackbird, 1 Northern Mockingbird
8 Snow Buntings, 2 Pine Siskins, 26 American Goldfinches, 70 Common Redpolls and 59 Pine Grosbeaks

Heard a second hand report of a Barred Owl in the park but did not locate it this morning.


Most finches were in the eastern side of the park (campground to the lookout) There is a small European Larch, Norway and White Spruce cone crop in the park this winter.

Directions
Take the Courtice road exit from the 401 and follow the park signs. There is a small parking lot at the gatehouse. Park here and walk the trail to the south. This will take you into the campground area.
