[Ontbirds]2007 Cedar Creek CBC results

The 23rd annual Cedar Creek CBC (central Essex County) was held on  
December 15. The fifty participants tallied 88 species and 58,781  
individuals.

Three new species were recorded for the count bringing the all-time  
total to 154 species:
Long-tailed Duck (1)  at Kingsville
Jaeger species (1) at Kingsville
Baltimore Oriole (1) at feeder in McGregor

Record high counts were set for eight species.
- Ross's Goose (3) at Jack Miner's
- Tundra Swan (257)
- Wood Duck (14)
- Bufflehead (84)
- Hooded Merganser (10)
- Wild Turkey (73)
- Bald Eagle (8) tie
- Lapland Longspur (107)
- Snow Bunting (5,970)

Other highlights included Cackling Goose (2), Mute Swan (2), Northern  
Shoveler (2), Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (1), Red-bellied Woodpecker  
(64), Ruby-crowned Kinglet (2) and Common Redpoll (17).  Only 7  
American Kestrels were tallied, a record low count. American Crows  
(17,827) have decreased each year since 2002. The roost is located  
along County Road 8 on the west side of Essex.
