Hi ,today Hugh Currie and i went birding with a visiting birder from Maine, Derek Lovitch. We had a good day finding all 3 birds we wanted to see.
We started in Stoney Creek at the bottom of Fruitland Road where we saw a female King Eider straight out on the lake, scope is required though. Also here were all 3 scoters and a flyby Great Black-backed Gull.
Then went up the escarpment at Fifty Road and saw the Northern Hawk Owl by the railroad. A flock of Common Redpolls stopped to check out the owl too.
Last we drove over to Brantford and in the afternoon found by the airport 6 Gray Partridge. Also seen here was a Red-bellied Woodpecker, flock of Horned Larks and a flyby Bald Eagle.

Directions-
King Eider- Take QEW Niagara and in Stoney Creek exit at Fruitland Road exit, drive north to the lake and scan the lake with a scope, was about 150metres out.

Northern Hawk Owl- Take Fifty Road from the QEW up the escarpment. Turn right on the Ridge Road. Go to the first sideroad, 10th Concession, and turn left. Proceed to the railroad tracks and park on the east side. The Owl was about 500 metres west down the railroad tracks, seen on the north side of the tracks.

Gray Partridge- Brantford Airport - from Hwy 403 just west of Brantford, exit at Rest Acres Rd (Hwy 24), head south to Robinson Road and turn east, follow to Greens Road and turn south. The 6 partridge were feeding in the snowy field just south of 55 Greens Road.
