Today Ken and I did the circuit from Hamilton to Port Burwell to kickstart
our year list (as it seems many people are doing!). Here is what we had:

Vinemount

Northern Hawk-Owl- the bird was in its usual area, we must have been there
too early to see any of the photographers harassing it, but it was a ways
off the road.

Stoney Creek

King Eider (female) far off shore at Fruitland Road.

All three scoters.

The lake was nice and calm first thing.

Burlington (Pier 25)

Double-crested Cormorant (30)

Green-winged Teal

Ring-necked Duck

Northern Pintail

Northern Shoveler

Hwy 403 just east of Brantford

Turkey Vulture

Bald Eagle

Port Burwell

Golden Eagle (juv, just north of town)

Yellow-throated Warbler (at suet feeder and foraging in trees)

Tufted Titmouse

Clear creek (along lake shore between Port Burwell and Long Point)

Hoary Redpoll

Greater Common Redpoll

Common Redpoll (~30)

Chipping Sparrow

Front Road just west of turkey point overlook (in the low spot that is
sheltered)

Eastern Towhee (female)

White-throated Sparrow (~30)

Front Road just east of Fishers Glen

Northern Mockingbird

Good Birding,

Directions:

Northern Hawk Owl

Take Fifty Road from the QEW up the escarpment. Turn right on the Ridge
Road. Go to the first sideroad, 10th Concession, and turn left. Proceed to
the railroad tracks and park on the east side. The Owl was about 500 metres
west down the railroad tracks, seen on the north side of the tracks.

Pier 25

off Eastport Drive (which parallels the QEW's Skyway), turn west off
Eastport into an area signed "Pier 23, 24 & 25", you will see a large metal
building on the left with a truck wash in front, the basin is next to the
parking lot of this building.

Port Burwell Yellow-throated Warbler:

3 Bridge St (there is no number displayed at the road) Cross the

> bridge in town centre heading west and take the first turn to the

> right. There is a sign there for Otter Creek Camping and Marina.

> Preferably park near that sign and walk up the driveway to the house

> at the top of the hill.

> It is not the house nearby with the sign that "Welcomes Birders" as it

> is not the right place.

> The preferred feeder for this bird is on the south side of the house

> in an arbor.

> Many other birds should be around too - but the weather controls

> traffic.
