Good morning all
The 42nd Niagara Falls CBC took place on Friday, December 28, 2007. Our count, centered at Queenston is unique in that one half is in Regional Niagara in Ontario, and the other half in New York State. Participants on both sides of the border observed 98 species and 43,052 individuals on count day. One count week bird was recorded, a Killdeer observed at Port Weller.

No new species were located, however our 2nd ever Hoary Redpoll was recorded, also in the Port Weller area.

Record high numbers were reported for: White-winged Scoter 1287 (1225 in 2002), Red-breasted Merganser 1185 (1100 in 2005), Wild Turkey 39 (26 in 2000), and Double-crested Cormorant 63 (60 in 2006).

Low numbers were evident: 1299 Canada Goose (a 12 year low), 242 Common Goldeneye (a 24 year low), 35 Northern Mockingbird (a 22 year low, we had 159 in 1989), and only 4 White-crowned Sparrow (a 13 year low).

I extend my deep appreciation to all participants, and a special thank you to Willie D'Anna who has for many years co-ordinated the US side of the count.
