Hello,
Despite the soggy conditions in Ottawa I had some good birds today. A male Black-Backed Woodpecker was found not far from the Ottawa Field Naturalist's Club http://www.ofnc.ca/ bird feeder at the Jack Pine Trail of Stoney Swamp. Along the first loop trail in a dense spruce tree a Northern Saw-whet Owl was discovered by several chicadees and then by me. It was well hidden in the thick spruce but chicadees have keen eyes apparently.
At 1:00pm the Townsend's Solitaire was sitting in the high juniper tree at 7 Millbrook Crescent. It was quite easy to miss sitting still and rather tucked in.
Directions to Jack Pine Trail
>From Ottawa, exit Moodie Drive south. Take Moodie south until it turns into Richmond Road. Take Richmond Road south to Hunt Club (may be called West Hunt Club). Take Hunt Club a few hundred metres east and you are back on Moodie. Head south on Moodie and look for the signs for parking lot on the east side of the road. Follow the paths.
to the OFNC feeder and fan out from there.
Directions to the Solitaire. From Ottawa take Prince of Wales south to Baseline Road. Head west on Baseline to Fisher Avenue. Head south and turn west at the first light (Deer Park Rd). Millbrook is the 3rd street off Deer Park.
Good Birding
