January 17 - The female HARLEQUIN DUCK was seen again today in Niagara
Falls, Ontario. It was about 30 yards from shore of the Niagara River, and about
50 yards down stream from were the creek flows into the Niagara (from Dufferin
Island). This is approximately between the stranded barge and the Canadian
shore.
Also seen were:
at Goat Island - adult Iceland Gull, two adult and second-winter Lesser
Black-backed Gulls
above Niagara Falls, Ontario:
first-winter Iceland Gull, two female Common Goldeneyes with drab all-yellow
bills, 26 Gadwall, 12 American Wigeon, and Golden-crowned Kinglet.
at Sir Adam Beck - 8 Iceland Gulls (5 imm. and 3 adults), third-winter
Lesser Black-backed Gull
Queenston - second-winter Iceland Gull and adult Little Gull
Niagara-on-the-Lake: RED-THROATED LOON, 3 Red-bellied Woodpeckers,
Double-crested Cormorants, 76 Long-tailed Ducks, White-winged Scoter, 36 American
Robins, and 3 Red-breasted Nuthatches.
Port Dalhousie (Gesundheit) - RED-NECKED GREBE, 5 beautiful Double-crested
Cormorants, 4 American Coots, and two Redheads.

Niagara Falls is well signed along the Niagara River and accessed from the
Niagara Parkway from the north or QEW from the west. Goat Island is on the US
side opposite Niagara Falls, Ont. The Sir Adam Beck overlook is located
along the Niagara Parkway between Niagara Falls and Queenston. The Queenston
docks are accessed from Dumfries St. off the Niagara Parkway below the
escarpment. Niagara-on-the-Lake is well signed at the mouth of the Niagara River at
Lake Ontario and accessed from Lakeshore Rd. from the west and the Niagara
Parkway from the south. Port Dalhousie harbor is located at the mouth of the
former Welland Canal and can be accessed from Lighthouse Rd. off of Lakeshore
Rd. in the town of Port Dalhousie.
