Hello Ontario Briders

Today, Saturday January 26th, we birded Wolfe Island. Birds of prey were
still plentiful with 46 Rough-legged Hawks, 3 Red-tailed Hawks, 1 Northern
Harrier, 8 American Kestrels, 6 Snowy Owls and 6 Northern Shirke (centrated
between 8th Line and 4th Line Roads). Near the ferry dock to the U.S. 2
adult Bald Eagles were oberseved. There was a small concentration of
waterfowl off this ferry dock mainly Common Merganser, Common Goldeneye and
Long-tailed Ducks, with a single White-winged Scoter. A few small flocks of
Snow Bunting and Horned Lark were observed.

In the lagoon at the Dupont Plant there was a good selection of waterfowl
including 222 Gadwall, 22 American Wigeon, 8 Hooded Merganser, 1 Redhead
(female), 3 Ring-necked Duck, and 18 American Coot. A Merlin was observed
nearby.

Good birding,
Bruce
