Clive Goodwin discovered 4 Greater White-fronted Geese on the ice at Cobourg
harbour this morning, Sunday January 27, and they were still there at 1pm.
Presumably these birds are part of the group that has been commuting between
Port Hope and Cobourg for the last week or so.
Gull-watching at Cobourg harbour has been good recently, especially on days
when there is plenty of ice in the harbour. Several Glaucous and Iceland are
usually present with one or more Thayer's and an adult Lesser Black-backed
some days.
Roger Frost saw the female Barrow's Goldeneye again today at the mouth of
the Port Hope harbour.
Directions to Cobourg harbour: Leave Hwy. 401 at Division St., Exit 474, and
go south on Division to the harbour. Drive west around the harbour to the
parking lot on the west side.
Port Hope harbour: Take Hwy 401 to exit 464 (Ontario Street) and bear left
on Mill Street where the road forks. Continue to the end of Mill Street
where there is parking beside the river. If you can't see the goldeneye well
enough from the walkway at the foot of Mill Street, drive west around the
Cameco factory to the harbour mouth where there is parking.
