[Ontbirds]Field trip to Minesing Wetlands

On Saturday Feb16th the Brereton Field Naturalists had a field tip to the
perimeters of the Minesing Wetlands. (north west of Barrie) led by Jim
Spruce.  The turn out was good, about 25 people including some member of the
Orillia club.  Our first stop was on McKinnon road, which runs north of Hwy
90 (Dunlop Street) just east of Angus.  Its a dead end road at the moment,
there is a farmproperty at the end and the folks always feed the birds,
about 15 feeders.  There's always a good selection of birds because its so
remote.

We found: Red Tailed Hawk (3)  Rough Legged Hawk (13) Raven )3) Snowy Owl
(3) American crow,  Plileated Woodpecker, Downie, Hairy, and Red Bellied
Woodpecker.  Blue Jay, House & Tree Sparrow, White Breasted Nuthatch,
American Goldfinch, Common Red Poll, Hoary Redpoll, Pine Siskin, Dark Eyed
Junco, Bald Eagle  Northern Shrike, Morning Dove, Northern Cardinal, Gull
(sp) Northern Shrike, Pine Grossbeak, Rock Pigeon. The Bald Eagle was
spotted in the parking lot at the end of Little Lake Drive, flying over the
lake.  The Snowie's were seen on the Outskirts of the Minesing Wetland, on
thew ground.  On my way home I spotted 25 Snow Buntings on the 4th lime of
Innisfill, just west of hwy 11.  Linda Crome
