[Ontbirds]Eagles and Waterfowl, Hamilton Harbour

On Saturday, Feb. 23, two immature bald eagles put on
quite an aerial display in front of a crowd of about
20 or so.  The pair of juveniles were initially seen
soaring over the waterfront community southeast of
Plains Road and by the time I had reached the harbour
and set up my scope they could be seen playing with
each other, locking talons on least one occassion and
flushing several ducks in the process.  A good variety
of waterfowl were found on the ice and open water east
of the pier.  The following is a summary:

trumpeter swan (70+)
mute swan (20)
Canada goose
mallard
black duck
canvasback
common goldeneye
bufflehead
common merganser
greater scaup
white-winged scoter
American coot

Also observed from the pier at the Lift Bridge:

red-breasted merganser
long-tailed duck

I did not see the peregrine falcons.

On the way home, there was a flock of about 20 wild
turkeys in a farm field south of Hwy 8, just west of
Peter's Corners.
