49 people in 23 cars [after pooling] travelled from Turkey Point to Long
Point. As a group 59 species were identified but as usual in a group of this
size everyone missed several species seen by others. Traffic was very heavy
with several other birding groups in the area making it very difficult to
keep the group togather. My apoligies to any of the group that may have
gotten lost. Highlights included thousands of Tundra Swans sitting on the
ice in the bay, swimming in any open water, sitting in the fields and flying
overhead. Against the blue of the sky they made an impressive sight indeed.
Several Sandhill Cranes were seen by all as was a mature Bald Eagle sitting
on the ice. Some saw a Hermit Thrush at Old Cut.As usual on this trip some
saw their first Robin, Redwing, Grackle and Killdear for the year.Spring was
certainly in the air.

Many thanks to Barry Jones, Jim Heslip and Bob Stamp for leading the large
convoy of vehicles and to Diane Salter for her Bird feeders were we saw our
only Siskins and Redpolls and later Red Bellied and Hairy Woodpeckers and
White Throated Sparrows [I guess some of us should have waited along a
little longer] thanks also to Bird Studies Canada for the use of the Old Cut
Visitor centre for lunch and washroom facilities.

Dont forget to Sponsor the OFO birding team that will be doing the Baillie
Birdathon on behalf of OFO
