[Ontbirds]Birds-Amherst Island-Kingston

Hello,

 

Lise and I visited Amherst Island yesterday; it was a beautiful sunny day.
The bird species is picking up, we saw American Kestrels, some already have
paired up with mates, many Rough-legged Hawks in a variety of morphs, some
Red-tailed hawks. There were robins pretty much everywhere, song sparrows,
Killdeers, Woodcocks (along the side of the road going into Owls Wood). In
Owls Woods, we saw one Long-eared Owl and fresh pheasant tracks in the snow.
We listened to a House Finch singing at the south end of the road going into
Owls Wood, it was in splendid colours. On the 410, near the exit to Rte 4,
there was a very fine looking, plump Northern Shrike sitting in a tree. The
north side of the island is still frozen, with some ducks to be seen in the
channel for the ferry, the south side is open with many water fowl, mostly
Goldeneyes and Saups.
