Oshawa Second Marsh April 12 6:30am-11:30am

Highlights

1 Drake Eurasian Wigeon foraging north of the GM platform near the leaning 
Osprey tower 6:30 - 7:20am  The marsh is quite high and alot of waterfowl 
were foraging in the flooded cattails at the north end of the marsh. The 
bird was in the area adjacent to the cattails last time I observed it.

Waterfowl:  approximately 1100 individuals of  22 species including 4 
Trumpeter Swans, 2 Redheads, 1 male Canvasback,  8 Northern Shoveler, 3 
Blue-winged Teal, 59 Green-winged Teal, and 28 Wood Ducks
Gulls: 6 species; including 1 Little, 1 Bonaparte's, and 1 imm Glaucous Gull
Raptors : 3 Osprey, 1 Sharp-shinned hawk and 2 Northern Harriers

other species : 2 American Bittern , 6 Pied-billed Grebe,  1 Pileated 
Woodpecker, 1 Yellow Bellied Sapsucker, 7 White-winged Scoters, 2 Red-necked 
Grebes and 3 Common Loons in Lake Ontario off the 2nd marsh (12 loons flew 
over the marsh this morning).


New Arrivals: Virginia Rail 1, Sora 1,  American Coots  8,  Wilson's Snipe 
1, Dunlin 2,  Caspian Tern 4+, Barn Swallow, Rough-winged Swallow,

Directions

Exit from the 401 at the Harmony Rd. Exit(419) in Oshawa. Go south on
Farewell St. Colonel Sam Drive. Turn East onto Colonel Sam Drive and follow
to the parking lot at the GM Headquarters. Park in the west parking lot
close to the marsh. The east (GM) platform is visible from the NW corner of
the lot.
