The Longspurs were seen Thursday afternoon, although there was a south wind Wednesday night.
I made an error in directions. From Highway 2 in Melbourne go SOUTH two roads to Hyndeman. Not north. It was brought to my attention by someone who couldn't find Hyndman, but sensibly asked the locals where it was. My apologies to anyone else who went the wrong way from Melbourne.
>From 401 west of London, and east of Chatham, take the Melbourne road north nearly to Melbourne. Turn west on Hyndman. Continue to where the hydro lines cross the road. Just before them look for a cornfield on your right. Watch for movements between the rows. Listen for singing and groups flying across the road to the ploughed field opposite.Other birds around include Horned Larks, Savannah and ,( at least one), Grasshopper sparrows, and Meadow larks In the area around Bluebirds and Phoebe. The whole square bounded by Melbourne Rd, Switzer, Mayfair and Riverside Road is worth driving.
