While sitting in the Toronto Star building driveway late Wednesday afternoon
waiting for CAA to replace a blown tire, I saw a Mockingbird with something
in its mouth in the bushes north of the entranceway. It flew around a
little, perched on the chain-link fence south of the entrance, and was
joined a few minutes later by a second one, which had also crossed from the
north side. The two sat side by side facing the same direction on top of the
fence for a minute or two.
Directions: East side of Weston Road, directly south of the bridge over 407;
we had been coming east on 407, took the Weston Road off-ramp which ends at
the light on Weston Road, and crossed Weston directly into the Star
driveway.
BTW, the possible Solitaire I partially glimpsed in my Oshawa backyard this
winter almost certainly was a grubby Mockingbird, as several of you
suggested; some weeks later I got a good look at an unmistakeable
Mockingbird in my front yard, and I have a better chance of winning the
lottery than of seeing both species at this spot! Sorry for any expectations
raised - myself, I was delighted at the first Mockingbird in the
neighbourhood.
