There was a breeding plumage female Wilson's Phalarope at the Nonquon S.L. in Port Perry this evening. It was actively feeding in the south end of cell #3 along with several other shorebirds. (24+ Yellowlegs, with at least 6 being Greater, and one Least Sandpiper). The only other birds of note were 8 - 10 Purple Martins (at least 2 females) flying over cell#1 and a singing Northern Waterthrush in the swampy area to the west of the entrance gate.
A pass is required to bird at the Nonquon S.L. The pass is $5 and can be obtained at the Waste Transfer Station at 1623 Reach Street, which is west of Simcoe Street or east of Hwy#12. The station is open from Tuesday to Saturday (8-4) and until 6pm on Thursday's only. The lagoons are located directly north of the transfer station and the entrance gate is located at 1730 Scugog Line #8 (next road north of Reach Street). You can get to Port Perry by going north off the 401 on Hwy#12 (Brock Street) in Whitby or Simcoe Street in Oshawa.
