After the good luck I had with the ruff and godwit, I drove back to
Toronto where it was raining heavily. I decided to check out Col Sam
Smith to see if there were any birds downed by the rain and I wasn't
disappointed. Unfortunately, there was an event going on just next to
the bowl so I birder the woods next to the large smoke stack. It was
full of yellow-rumped and pine warblers as well as grey catbird,
ovenbird, white-crowned sparrow, white-throated sparrow, hermit thrush
and wood thrush.

I walked out to towards the lake and found 7 common loons, long-tailed
duck, horned grebe, red-necked grebe, tree swallow, barn swallow, mute
swan, double-crested cormorant, mallard, blue-winged teal, gadwall,
red-winged blackbird, grey catbird, song sparrow, savannah sparrow and
finally a bobolink. As I was standing in the rain, a lone osprey flew
over being harassed by a common tern.

Col Sam Smith is located at the base of Kipling St in Toronto.

Good Birding
