Hey Birders,

This morning around 11am Steve Thorpe, myself and 2 others (I didn't get
their names) birded the West Perth Wetlands (Mitchell). Shorebird numbers
continue to climb and water levels have dropped slightly even since Monday.
Among the shorebirds present the highlight were 6 Hudsonian Godwits (all
adults in non-breeding plumage). In reading Dave Martin's post from
yesterday it might be possible that these are the same birds? One of the
birds was quite abit larger than the other birds. Other birds seen were:

Red-necked Phalarope - 3 juveniles

Wilson's Phalarope - 1 juvenal

Stilt Sandpiper - 4

Black-bellied Plover - 2

Killdeer - 30-40

Greater Yellowlegs - 30

Lesser Yellowlegs - 120+

Semipalmated Sandpiper - 5

Least Sandpiper - 10

Pectoral Sandpiper - 30

Other birds - 1 Great Egret and 2 Green Herons

It will definitely be worth while to keep checking this site. With lower
water levels, numbers should only increase. All birds observed were in the
farthest lagoon.

Good Birding,

Ken Burrell

West Perth Wetlands is located in Mitchell, about 20 km west of Stratford.
>From Ontario Street (Hwy 8) turn south on Wellington and follow it to Frank
Street. The lagoons are 200m directly south.
